Varian McMurran Pellegrino Claeys

Gareth: I'm new here, too!
Varian: Are you Pelle-Dad's kid, too?
Gareth: Laughs. No, my dad's name is Farren.
Varian: What's yours?
Gareth: Gareth. What's yours?
Varian: Var-ee-an.
Gareth: Nice to meet'cha! Wanna be best friends?
Varian: Can I have more than one because my half-brother is too, but he's not here because his mom didn' want him to go.
Gareth: Yeah, that's okay, I guess… But brothers're brothers 'n' best friends're friends… Wish I had a brother.
Varian: It's nice, but I won't see him until he visits because he lives in a castle.
Gareth: Is he not a Uray?
Varian: He is.
Gareth: How come he doesn't live here?
Varian: His momma didn' want him to.
Gareth: Oh… how come?
Varian: I don't know, but then Pelle-Dad got beat up by my grampas.
Gareth: …How come?
Varian: He made them real mad or something… but Noah said something about taking me away, so that's it, I think.
Gareth: Who's Noah?
Varian: The biggest person ever-ever.
Gareth: Oh. Blink.
Varian: Pelle-Dad was here to him. Indicates where Pelle came up to on Noah. But they were mean to him so we left after he got better.
Gareth: Oh… is he okay?
Pelle: There you are, Varian… It's past your bed time. You should be getting along to your bedroom as well, Gareth.
Gareth: Okay… See you tomorrow, Varian!
Varian: Bye, Gareth. Glum.
Pelle: Pick him up. Homesick?
Varian: Nods.
Pelle: Well… do you have any… sort of bedtime routine? A glass of milk? A bedtime story?
Varian: Nod, nod. She'd get me a glass of water'n sometimes Grampa, or Gramma, or Great Grampa or Granma would kiss me good night and then Mom would read me these stories, but they sounded really pretty… and she'd tuck me in… a… and. Tearing up.
Pelle: Guess that wasn't a good idea. Hold him a bit closer and kiss his cheek.
Varian: Responds well to affection, at least. Hugs around his neck.
Pelle: It's okay… Stroke his hair.
Varian: Sniff. Hugs tighter.
Pelle: I'll get you a glass of water and tuck you in and kiss you good night…
Varian: Nod, nod. Okay…
Pelle: Smiles and wipes the tears gently from Varian's eyes. What a sweet kid. Get Varian to his room, help him change if he needs it, watches him brush his teeth, tucks him in, and pours him a glass of water.
Varian: Pretty capable for his age, at least! Stare up at Pelle.
Pelle: Would you like me to read you a story?
Varian: Big hopeful eyes. Nod, nod.
Pelle: Alright… Well… have you ever heard any of Aesop's Fables?
Varian: Nods some.
Pelle: I'll read you a few. Crack open the book, pull him onto his lap and read to him.
Varian: Obviously used to this, as he gets comfortable right away and leans against Pelle.
Pelle: Has a nice reading voice.
Varian: Smiles a little.
Pelle: Do you like to sing, Varian?
Varian: Sometimes…
Pelle: Do you know Greensleeves?
Varian: Shakes his head.
Pelle: Sing! Alas, my love, you do me wrong, to cast me off discourteously. For I have loved you well and long, delighting in your company. Greensleeves was all my joy, Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold, and who but my lady Greensleeves.
Varian: Heart. Listen!
Pelle: Your vows you've broken, like my heart, oh, why did you so enrapture me? Now I remain a world apart, but my heart remains in captivity. Greensleeves was all my joy, Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold, and who but my lady Greensleeves.
Varian: Looks curious, but not about to interrupt.
Pelle: I have been ready at your hand, to grant whatever you would crave, I have both wagered life and land, your love and good-will for to have. Greensleeves was all my joy, Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold, and who but my lady Greensleeves. If you intend thus to disdain, it does the more enrapture me, and even so, I still remain a lover in captivity. Greensleeves was all my joy, Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold, and who but my lady Greensleeves.
Varian: Ponders who Greensleeves is.
Pelle: My men were clothed all in green and they did ever wait on thee; all this was gallant to be seen, and yet thou wouldst not love me. Greensleeves was all my joy, Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold, and who but my lady Greensleeves. Thou couldst desire no earthy thing, but still thou hadst it readily. Thy music still to play and sing; and yet thou wouldst not love me. Greensleeves was all my joy, Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold, and who but my lady Greensleeves. Well, I will pray to God on high that thou my constancy mayst see and that yet once before I die, thou wilt vouchsafe to love me. Greensleeves was all my joy, Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold, and who but my lady Greensleeves. Ah, Greensleeves, now farewell, adieu, to God I pray to prosper thee, for I am still they lover true, come once again and love me. Greensleeves was all my joy, Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold, and who but my lady Greensleeves.
Varian: Clap.
Pelle: Smiles. Look at his pocket watch. Now… it is far, far past your bed time. Lift him off his lap and tuck him into the bed. Kiss goodnight. I'll be in the next room over, if you need me.
Varian: Nod, nod. Good night.
Pelle: Good night, Varian. I love you.
Varian: Heart. …Really?
Pelle: I do. Smile.
Varian: …Would Mom be mad if I said, "I love you." to you? Frowns.
Pelle: …I cannot say for sure, but she shouldn't be. There is enough room in one's heart to love many people.
Varian: Muses over this… …Okay. Love you, night-night.
Pelle: Smiles. Leave to the next room to write a letter to Melly.
Varian: Sleep.
